Our team

Visiting the vet can be stressful for pets, and sometimes for their owners too. At Dierenkliniek Westlandgracht, we create a calm environment with personal attention and care tailored to your pet’s needs.

Dierenkliniek Westlandgracht was founded by veterinarian Sarah Farrand. With over nine years of experience and a special passion for dentistry in dogs and cats, she decided to start her own clinic. Together with a small, dedicated team of veterinary nurses, she is building a practice that is both professional and approachable.

In addition to general veterinary care, we place special focus on dentistry. After all, a healthy, pain-free mouth significantly contributes to overall quality of life. We also adhere to the principles of Cat Friendly Practice (ISFM), ensuring that cats feel as safe and comfortable as possible during their visit.

We believe that good care starts with trust and collaboration. That’s why we are always happy to take the time for your questions and concerns.

We believe the best care starts with trust and open communication. That’s why we take the time for your questions and concerns. We look forward to welcoming you and your pet to our clinic.

  • Sarah

    Sarah Farrand

    Veterinarian and owner

I’m Sarah, a veterinarian for dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. After years of working in clinics in Amsterdam and England, I’m now fulfilling my dream of opening my own practice: Dierenkliniek Westlandgracht.

My biggest passion is dentistry, because a healthy mouth means less pain and a happier, healthier life. Alongside dentistry, I provide first-line consultations and, together with my team, ensure every patient receives the best possible care.

I like to take the time to explain things clearly to pet owners, so you feel confident about the choices for your pet. At home, I share my life with my cats, Coconut and Beer, and I love riding my horse, Lena. I’m also a board member of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Netherlands, supporting projects that connect healthy animals with healthy people and a healthy planet.

  • Louis

    Louis van Hövell

    Veterinarian

Louis is a companion animal veterinary surgeon and enjoys working with dogs and cats. He particularly values the personal contact during consultations and enjoys first-opinion surgery, always working with care and attention to detail.

Louis is Sarah’s partner and, alongside our clinic, also works in Bergen and Naarden. After graduating, he began his career in 2016 as a mixed-practice veterinarian in Brabant and England. During this time, he gained broad experience, treating a wide range of animals including cows, sheep, goats, owls, a young fox and occasionally a horse. He now focuses entirely on the care of companion animals.

Louis’s calm manner and clear explanations often have a reassuring effect on both our patients and their owners. Outside the clinic, he enjoys spending time in nature, exploring his interest in antique English and Japanese air rifles, or relaxing in a good English pub.

  • Jurjen

    Jurjen Göbel

    Veterinary Nurse

Jurjen is a veterinary nurse and a permanent member of our clinic team. Our collaboration began during his internship at Dierenkliniek Amsterdam, where he continued working after completing it. That’s where we discovered our shared interest in dentistry and anaesthesia, and since then, we have become a well-coordinated team.

With his extensive experience in dentistry, anaesthesia, and caring for hospitalised patients, Jurjen is a key support in the clinic. He works calmly, carefully, and with great attention to the well-being of every animal.

In his free time, Jurjen enjoys going to the cinema, practising karate, and often cat-sits in Amsterdam. Even outside of work, caring for animals plays an important role in his life.
